This week, John Deere launched their latest 9R Series tractor, with several models powered by the mighty 15-liter Cummins QSX15. The largest wheeled, tracked and scraper 9R tractors in the industry now leap ahead to 570 and 620-rated horsepower – with Cummins engines being painted green to match the famous color of the supersized Deere tractors.

This is the largest expansion of the top-line four-wheel-drive and track tractor series in John Deere history. The expansion is aimed at large-scale farmers who need to cover plenty of terrain under tough conditions with a new breed of cleaner, high-performance tractors meeting Tier 4 Final near-zero emissions.

“With the addition of the 15L to the 9.0L and 13.5L engine lineup, this brings an ideal range of displacement options to the 9R/9RT family with rated power reaching a new height of 620 horsepower, the largest tractor we’ve ever built,” said Jerry Griffith, division marketing manager, John Deere Waterloo.

The first sight of the 9R with the QSX15 will be at the Farm Progress Show, starting Aug. 26, 2014 in Boone, Iowa. The flagship tractor with a green Cummins is sure to create major excitement as news about the best-kept secret in the agriculture equipment industry is released.

“Cummins and Deere engineering groups worked closely together during the development of the tractor to create a unique QSX15 configuration and torque delivery, said Jim Branner, Ag Market – Global OEM Accounts, Cummins. “The very impressive results are due to outstanding work by a cross-functional team to integrate the QSX15 from air-intake to exhaust aftertreatment in the 9R tractor.”
